What's different about CoolPass? We are an L3C...That's New!

CoolPass™ is a brand new type of company called an L3C, created to allow Social Entrepreneurs to run a business with a mission.. and work in harmony with non-profits.

An L3C is a new form of company which blends the best qualities of both for-profit and non-profit organizations. The  Mannweiler Foundation calls the L3C “The For Profit With The Nonprofit Soul.” Our L3C is a  mixed profit model which is able to bring together a mix of foundations, trusts, endowments, investors, corporations, and government in order to achieve social objectives while operating according to for-profit metrics.

Just like many other Carbon Offsetters:

We purchase credits from companies reducing their Greenhouse Gas emissions or operating Renewable Energy Projects. We sell shares of those credits to people and businesses who wish to offset their own CO^₂ emissions, and then retire the credits from the available pool so that they are never traded again. That is a Carbon Offset. Turning Credits into Offsets provides revenue to the credit producers, making otherwise unprofitable emission reduction and renewable energy projects profitable so that they get done. That part of the Carbon Offset business model is really very simple, and makes a real difference to the environment. Most of our competitors stop here.

We have a mission which goes much farther:

We take the mission of offsetting beyond the retiring of CO2... by directly reducing energy use through the Assisted Home reduction program. We use a significant part of our sales to assist low-income homeowners in "Reducing the Load" with new EnergyStar efficient furnaces, hot water heaters, insulation and other home upgrades. We offset greenhouse gases, buy EnergyStar upgrades for homeowners who need it most, reduce their energy costs, and reduce the load. This helps reduce the energy load on the power grid, and keeps even more CO^₂ out of the atmosphere.We call it "Offset to the Power of 3"!

Our funding and distribution model provides the sustainable cooperative financial framework necessary to create the velocity to go beyond offsetting and retiring Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

We are one of the first of these new hybrid organizations in the Country.
